Photography Production and Appreciation 1st edition

Photography Production and Appreciation 2nd edition

The ‘Of Land and Light’ exhibition brings together the work of artists, long-time colleagues and friends Sandra Jane and Sue Burke, whose practices are shaped by decades of creative inquiry, shared histories, and a deep connection to place.

Sandra Jane’s work reflects her 38-year career as a teacher of photography, immersed in both traditional and contemporary photographic and photo media practices. Cherished holidays spent in Sorrento and Portsea have profoundly influenced her vision. In this body of work, Jane offers a personal and poetic response to this coastal environment, celebrating the beach and bay, and the ever-changing, extraordinary cloud formations that hover above and define this landscape.

Sue Burke’s practice is informed by a life shared between Melbourne and Sorrento, alongside extensive travel and participation in artist residency programs throughout Australia and Europe. Working across a range of media and styles, with a particular affinity for charcoal and watercolour, Burke’s works in this exhibition extend her ongoing explorations of place and memory. They reflect on her recent residency in France, bringing together observatio

n, experience, and a contemplative sense of journey.

Together, Jane and Burke present a dialogue between landscape, memory, and artistic practice, offering viewers an intimate encounter with environments both familiar and transformed through lived experience.
